G-MAP has offered a specialist service to young people who sexually abused others since 1988. Consistently at the forefront of developments in this emerging area, G-MAP has gained a national reputation through its contribution to practice, training and research.
Fostering at modus is an independent agency based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. It was established in 2002 and currently has foster families located throughout the North West of England. modus prides itself upon the high level of support and personal development that it offers its foster carers, enabling us to offer placements that encompass young people with diverse and specific needs. At modus, we hold a belief that every young person deserves the opportunity of experiencing a positive and safe family environment, no matter what challenges that may pose.
G-MAP’s experience in working with young people, family and carers in secure, residential and community environments has identified a significant number of young people who have issues around attachment, intimacy and social deficits. For many of these young people, their needs would be best served by a well supported specialist family placement that offers the safety, security and support they need to address these issues.
modus will recommend carers with knowledge of social care who are in a position to offer a safe and stable environment with continuous supervision and support to a young person placed in their care. The carers will receive an unprecedented level of support with a ratio of no more than four families to one worker. The package of support will include a round the clock response from experienced workers as well as individually tailored training and development programmes.
The therapeutic work offered by G-MAP to the young people concerned would seek to reduce their problematic behaviours and enable them to acquire skills that help them to make a transition to safe participation in the community. The value of a specialist foster placement would be the access to positive role models that offer a supportive, safe, stable, caring relationship to a young person together with appropriately supervised opportunities to promote the individual's involvement in the local community.
The complementary knowledge and skills of the G-MAP and modus teams puts us in a position to offer high quality training, consultancy and support to specialist foster carers. They, in turn, will have an effective role as members of the young person's therapeutic team.
