The modus trust is born out of the belief that safety, education and health are the cornerstone of every person’s human right. They form the basis of a creative, sustainable society in which each individual is protected and prospers. Without these, societies cannot progress and develop. We support values which cultivate societies.
At the World Education Forum in 2000, the Dakar Framework for Action was adopted by 127 countries to give all primary school-age children access to education by 2015.The initiative, overseen by UNESCO is now eight years old.
UNICEF and the World Health Organisation estimate that there are still 2.5 million infant deaths each year from diseases against which vaccines already exist. There will be approx 40 million AIDS orphans by 2010.
Our global Ecological Footprint has grown by 70%. By 2050, the WWF calculates our consumption will exceed our planet’s capacity to deliver by 120% per year, creating an ecological debt we have no means to service.
We know the challenges that the world faces, and we know we have the power to make a difference. Nothing is insignificant. The late Anita Roddick once said “ If you think you are too small to make an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito.”
We are inspired to contribute effectively to the provisions of learning, education and health programmes in those countries where they do not consistently exist and where they are deficient in quality and quantity. We believe that individual power and collective responsibility combined together can change lives and create social improvement.
To care is not enough, action is required to make a difference.
The trust is established to do that – to step up to the mark and live our global responsibility.
